Why we started

Preparing the lesson took longer than teaching it.

We are two English teachers in Ukraine, and this was our week: an hour of teaching on the calendar, and rather more than an hour spent getting ready for it.

PrepLab exists to give that time back. Everything on the right is work we had already done, over and over, before every session — so we started doing it once, properly, and keeping it.

What one hour of teaching costs
  1. 1Find material that is actually worth putting in front of a student.
  2. 2Build a structure that follows sound methodology, not just a running order.
  3. 3Check the whole thing fits one academic hour — no overrun, no dead ten minutes.
  4. 4Make sure it serves one clear aim, rather than touching five things loosely.
  5. 5Make it interesting enough that the student stays with you to the end.

Five jobs, every single week, for one hour in the room. That is the work PrepLab has already done.

Who writes them

Two teachers. No content farm.

Every lesson in the library is written by one of us and reviewed by the other. Nothing is outsourced — which is why the structure, the level and the timing stay consistent from one lesson to the next.

We are both CELTA certified with a Pass A, and we build to CELTA standards and current methodology practice — not to whatever fills a page.

Over 100 lessons in the library today, and we add at least two every week — each one through the same four stages below.

  • CELTA, Pass A

Both of us. Every lesson is built to CELTA standards and current methodology practice.

  • Teens and adults

Years of classroom time with both, so the register and pacing suit the age in the room.

  • One-to-one and groups

Each lesson says how it runs solo and how it runs with a group — the two are not the same.

  • Business and corporate

Meetings, negotiation, reporting and corporate training, written from real client work.

How a lesson gets published

Nothing goes live until it has cleared all four stages. If it fails at any of them it goes back for fixes — we would rather publish fewer lessons than publish one that falls flat in your session.

  1. 1

    One of us writes it

A single teacher builds the whole lesson — aim, structure, timing and materials — so it hangs together as one piece of thinking.

  2. 2

    The other reviews it

The second teacher reads it cold and gives feedback on the aim, the sequence and the level. Anything unclear gets fixed before it goes further.

  3. 3

    We teach it for real

Every lesson is taught to real students — individuals and groups — and we collect their feedback, not just our own impression of how it went.

  4. 4

    Then it publishes

Approved by both of us, tested in a real session, and revised on what the students said. Only then does it reach the library.
